Kawasaki Releases World's Fastest Bike

Kawasaki has outdone itself and the rest of the automotive industry by releasing the fastest bike in the world, with speeds upward of 185 miles per hour, according to News.com.au. The Kawasaki Ninja H2 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and was designed with aerospace technology.

The bike's makers note the H2 is not for everyone. However, only a standard motorcycle license is required for riding. With its lighter frame and smaller engine, the bike weighs one-fifth as much as a car, making it especially capable of taking off at high speeds. With speed comes concerns with safety, which Kawasaki has addressed by adding anti-lock brakes. The company indicated it doesn't expect higher or more frequent insurance claims from H2 riders compared to other sport bikes on the road.

Though manufacturers typically try to update their bikes to create a new industry standard, a motorcycle can only go so fast before it is no longer street legal. Makers rely on the speed factor to attract buyers and promote their brands. However, owners shouldn't forget one of the most important aspects of driving a motorcycle: insurance.

Standard car insurance does not cover motorcycles, so a separate policy will have to be purchased altogether. Luckily for drivers, there are a number of different options available based on how much they drive and their perceived risk.

With such a prized possession, you're not only going to want to insure yourself, but your bike as well. Most insurance policies target bodily harm in the event of accidents, but as a driver you likely already have this type of insurance. What if your bike gets damaged when you're not riding? What about all of your accessories?

To ensure your bike is properly insured, here are some of the best insurance options:

Comprehensive

This type of insurance is designated to cover damages that aren't as a result of an accident. Damages from vandalism, fire, hail and animals may occur more frequently than you think, which means you'll likely need comprehensive coverage.

Collision

For damages related to accidents, collision coverage will pay for the bike repair expenses. If the other driver is at fault, then his or her insurance is responsible, while your policy will cover additional costs after a certain limit.

Accessories

If you value high-end motorcycles, then you'll likely have additional accessories that need to be insured as well. Helmets, gloves, jackets, boots and other safety gear is vital to remaining safe while on the road. In the event of an accident, these items can become damaged as well, which is why they should be insured through accessory coverage.

Custom parts like sidecars, antennas and exhaust pipes can also be insured. Drivers typically take advantage of upgrading or refitting their bikes with the newest accessories, which will increase the market value of their bikes while also enhancing the riding experience. You'll want to make sure these parts are covered in the event of an accident.

Roadside assistance

If you get a flat tire or your engine is malfunctioning, roadside assistance will cover the damages while towing you to your destination. This is a convenient option that may not be used often but will come in handy when necessary. Roadside assistance is usually offered for fairly cheap, which makes it an attractive policy for bikers.

The majority of states require minimum liability coverage while driving. However, this only covers damage that you cause to others and won't cover repair costs or medical expenses. To keep your bike fully insured, find the best policies by shopping around.
