3 Breathtaking New Jersey Road Trips

The United States is known for its diversity – both ethnically and geographically – and New Jersey is no exception. The Garden State is the 5th smallest state, but boasts a big personality. New Jersey is home to the world’s longest boardwalk (and also America’s oldest), the streets on your classic Monopoly board, and American treasure Bruce Springsteen.

Embedded with rich history and beautiful surroundings, New Jersey is the perfect place to get away for a day…or three. If you find yourself needing a vacation, and just want to go, consider these three breathtaking New Jersey drives. Make sure you’re properly protected for your adventure by getting New Jersey car insurance.

For Nature Lovers and Adventurers: The Delaware River on Old Mine Road

This 30-mile drive along the Delaware River offers some incredible views. Start at the top of Old Mine Road, where it intersects with route 206, in Montague where the high elevation gives way to amazing views. Continue down Old Mine Road, along the river, and stop to enjoy the fresh air and fluid Pennsylvania-New Jersey border. If you’re an adventurer, try whitewater rafting or kayaking down the river. If you’re looking to just chill, let your problems float away while tubing. After your fun in the sun, make your way to Worthington State Forest and check out over 26 miles of trails and beautiful wildlife.

For History Lovers: Historic Route 206 from Princeton to Trenton

This 16-mile-long drive will be sure to bring out your inner historian. Begin your trip for the history books at one of the nation’s most prestigious educational institutions, Princeton University (Princeton). While in Princeton, take time to explore the campus and its remarkable architecture. Visit the former homes of Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, Albert Einstein, Joseph Hewes and John Witherspoon (two signers of the Declaration of Independence), and the American government from July to October of 1783. Continue your adventure to the Princeton Battle Monument and the Morven Museum & Garden for some Revolutionary War history. Then, venture to the present of Princeton and the Governor’s Mansion, also known as Drumthwacket, which is the official home of the New Jersey Governor.

Leaving Princeton, take historic Route 206 to Trenton, which is about 12 miles, and enjoy New Jersey at its finest. Begin your time in the capital of the Garden State at the Old Barracks Museum, where you can see the only remaining colonial barracks. Finish your day of history with a tour of the New Jersey State House, New Jersey’s capitol building.

For Night Owls:

The Atlantic City Expressway From Gloucester City To Atlantic City
You’ll have the night of your life on this trip from the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border to the Atlantic Ocean. As the sun sets, take in spectacular views from Gloucester City as Philadelphia and the Ben Franklin Bridge light up the night. Head down the Atlantic City Expressway and grab a bite at a number of restaurants between Washington and Hamilton Townships. If you get hungry before that, 14 miles after you leave Gloucester City, is Sickelerville with plenty of dining and shopping at The Shoppes at Cross Keys. After dinner, head to Atlantic City, where you can top this amazing drive off with a stroll down the longest boardwalk in the world.
