Meet Nathan Seither, CoverHound Engineer

We’re so excited to introduce to you our newest employee, Nathan Seither! I sat down with Nathan to ask him a few questions, so we can get to know him better.

Tell me about where you're from, and what brought you to SF?

I grew up in Sacramento but had been living on the west side of Oahu for three years before moving to SF. I moved because it's a lot easier to be a developer out here.

What was it like living in Hawaii?

Living in Hawaii was pretty sweet. My job had me driving up and down the Waianae coast all day, going in and out of the valleys. You would think that you would get tired of the beauty after seeing it every day, but I never stopped being floored by how stunningly gorgeous that place is. The pace of life there is way more laid back than here in the Bay, especially out in the country where I was. I really loved it out there. (Wow, that sounds super dreamy!)

What do you like to do for fun?

I have quite a few pastimes, but some of my favorites are definitely playing music, rock climbing, cooking and playing tabletop games. I also have a curious obsession with the show "Cheers."

If you could go on all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Oh man, that is such a hard question! I'd really like to go to southeast Asia and Thailand in particular. I really like jungles and beaches, and there are some really cool ruins in that area.

What type of music do like? Favorite bands / DJs/ singers?

My music can go all over the board, but I'll give you some of my favorites. Van Morrison, Marc Anthony, Paul Simon, the Beatles, Iron & Wine, the National, Counting Crows, the Decemberists and Beirut. I really love music, and I can appreciate most styles when they're done well.

What are your favorite restaurants in SF & why?

Again with the impossible questions! There's just so much good food here. Dirty Habit: Really flavorful small plates, an adventurous cocktail menu, and multiple foie gras options. Garaje: Mexican street food meets classic American greasy grub. Beer comes in liters. They have french fries with pulled pork. Nothing more needs be said. Mikkeller: Meat, fried potatoes and incredible beer from all around the world. There may be a pattern here. ;) I'm gonna stop thinking about this one because it's making me too hungry.

Are you into sports? If so, what are you favorite sports teams?

I am a HUGE Giants fan. HUGE. I also support the All-Blacks (New Zealand national rugby union team) and the German national soccer team. I love watching FC Barcelona whenever they're playing. (Go Giants!!)

Where's your favorite place that you've traveled to and why?

I haven't done a whole lot of traveling, but I really enjoyed my time in Cabo San Lucas. I love the tropics, fish, tacos, rum, tequila and the ocean. Cabo has it all in spades.

Who is someone you look up to and why?

I look up to Sandi Metz. She is tremendous at helping developers find the way to write smaller, cleaner code that makes life easier for them and their coworkers. She is also a fantastic example of the niceness that we like to talk about in the Ruby community.

What brought you to CoverHound?

I wanted to be a part of something as important as what we're doing here. The chance to work with my buddy David made it too good to pass up. (Yay for friends passing on the CoverHound love!)

Nathan, we're thrilled you joined the team! I can already say that your positivity is infectious in the office!
