Giving Back This Holiday Season

At CoverHound, community is very important to us, and we are always looking for ways to make a positive impact on the people and neighborhoods closest to us. 2015 was our second year teaming up with The Salvation Army for their annual Angel Tree project. Hilda Dubon-Rand, a QC/ Business Support Analyst in our Westlake Office, took the lead on this project, with some help in our San Francisco office from Quinn Morrison. We all brought our gifts in to the Westlake office, the Friday of our team Christmas party.

Every employee got to choose an ornament tag for a specific child. A lot of employees chose to buy gifts for multiple children- most wanting to buy for both a boy and a girl. This year we doubled our efforts from last year. Our Westlake Team shopped for 120 kids, and the San Francisco team purchased presents for about 60.

I chose a three year old boy who liked blocks and trains, because those are things I enjoy as well. I went on a Target run with a few colleagues. For my child, I picked up PlayDoh, Lincoln Logs, an Ironman coloring book, crayons, a stuffed dinosaur, and bubbles. I admit, I got a 6-pack of bubbles, so that I could keep a few for myself. I hope it was as fun for him to open as it was for me to shop!

Stuffed animals, Lego sets, and puzzles seemed to be popular items. Hilda Dubon-Rand got a Barbie, and some items of clothing for a young girl. The entire entryway of the Westlake office was filled with bags and boxes, and it was really heartwarming to see just how many CoverHound employees ended up contributing. This was my first Angel Tree, but it definitely won't be my last! Everyone is already looking forward to shopping for the kids again next year.

Especially during the holidays, it really is the little things that make a big difference. How will you spend the holidays, and are there any simple ways you can make an impact on the community around you?
